Years of Struggling with Failing Dentures
For a woman in her late sixties, the simplest things had become the hardest. Eating a meal with family. Laughing without covering her mouth. Saying yes to a dinner invitation.
She had been living with severe gum disease and multiple missing teeth for years. Her remaining teeth were beyond saving, and the dentures she relied on were loose, uncomfortable, and failing. Over time, she had quietly pulled back from the people and activities she loved.
When she came to ArtSmiles, she was ready for a permanent solution. She just wasn't sure what that looked like.

Choosing the Right Treatment Path
After a detailed consultation, including CBCT scans and a full assessment of her oral health, we recommended All-on-4 implant treatment for her upper arch. This approach uses four strategically placed implants to support a full bridge of fixed teeth, and it can often be done without the need for bone grafting.
A Conversation About Implant Materials
Our patient had done her own research and initially asked about zirconia implants. We appreciated her curiosity and took time to walk through the options together.
While zirconia is an excellent material for the visible bridge, titanium remains the gold standard for the implants themselves. Titanium has decades of clinical evidence supporting its ability to integrate with bone reliably and maintain long-term stability. For her situation, titanium implants paired with a zirconia bridge offered the best of both worlds: proven strength below the gum line and a beautiful, natural look above it.
She felt reassured by the explanation and confident moving forward.
Surgery Day and the Days That Followed
Using digital planning and a 3D-printed surgical guide, we placed four titanium implants in the upper jaw with precision. The surgical guide acts like a custom template, ensuring each implant goes exactly where it was planned. This approach reduces surgery time and supports a smoother recovery.
No bone grafting was required, which simplified the process considerably.
The very next day, she returned and received a fixed temporary bridge. For the first time in years, she had a full set of teeth that didn't move, didn't slip, and didn't need to be taken out at night.

The Final Bridge: Built to Last, Designed to Shine
After a healing period, we replaced the temporary bridge with her permanent restoration: a monolithic zirconia bridge in shade A2. This shade was chosen to give her a bright but natural-looking smile that suited her skin tone and facial features.
Monolithic zirconia is milled from a single piece of ceramic, making it extremely strong and resistant to chipping. It also has a translucency that closely resembles natural tooth enamel, so it looks authentic in all lighting.
The fit was precise, the bite was balanced, and the result was exactly what she had hoped for.

More Than Just New Teeth
The changes that followed went far beyond her mouth. Here is what she shared with us in the weeks and months after treatment:
She could eat anything again. Steak, apples, corn on the cob. Foods she had avoided for years were back on the menu.
Her facial fullness returned. Missing teeth and ill-fitting dentures can cause the lower face to look sunken over time. With the new bridge supporting her lip and cheeks, her face looked naturally fuller and more youthful.
She reconnected with people. She started accepting invitations again, going out to eat, and spending more time with friends and family.
In one of the most heartwarming gestures we have experienced, she later invited members of our team to join her on a trip to Bali. That kind of gratitude speaks volumes about the difference this treatment made in her life.
