Dental Implant Procedure: 4 Steps for your new smile
Introduction: Are you considering a dental implant procedure to restore your smile’s brilliance and enhance your oral well-being? Look no further than Artsmiles Dental Clinic,
If you are missing a single tooth, one dental implant and a crown can replace it. A dental implant replaces both the lost natural tooth and its root. A dental implant provides several advantages over other tooth replacement options. In addition to looking and functioning like a natural tooth, a dental implant replaces a single tooth without sacrificing the health of neighboring teeth. The other common treatment for the loss of a single tooth, a tooth-supported fixed bridge, requires that adjacent teeth be ground down to support the cemented bridge.
Dental Implant is durable, beautiful, and that mimics your natural tooth structure. A single tooth dental implant from ArtSmiles can be made to look and feel so natural that it will seem – to you and to others – like your natural tooth. At ArtSmiles Cosmetic Dentistry on the Gold Coast, we use cutting-edge technology and a world-class, on-demand laboratory that designs dental implants to detailed perfection from the highest-quality materials.

A dental implant is a permanent tooth replacement solution that is placed in the jaw through surgery. Each implant consists of three parts:
The post, also sometimes called a screw, is inserted into the bone beneath your gums to replace the root of your tooth. Posts are made of medical-grade titanium, a material that bonds naturally with your bone to create a secure hold for your replacement teeth. The abutment is a connector piece that attaches your implant post to your new replacement tooth, also known as the crown.
Your crowns are custom-made to look just like natural teeth. If you are replacing multiple teeth, you may receive a bridge or other multi-tooth prosthesis instead of a single-tooth crown.
With a high success rate, implants are becoming more and more popular. Many dental professionals recommend implants as the first choice to consider for patients who want to replace one tooth or multiple teeth.
At ArtSmiles Cosmetic Dentistry, our custom Dental Implants will match or replace your natural teeth, and Dr Cristian will make sure that the Dental Implants you get will give you the exact smile transformation that you’ve always wanted.
With proper care and regular oral hygiene, your implant can last a lifetime. The titanium implant form a permanent bond with the bone in your jaw, allowing your implant to function just like natural tooth with healthy gums.
In the long run a properly placed and maintained dental implant can actually help save you money, time and aggravation.
Dental Implant looks, feels and functions just like healthy natural tooth. Most patients opt for dental implant to restore their smiles, self-esteem, and confidence, so they enjoy a healthy smile, worry free!
Bone loss, dental shifting, and other issues can arise when a tooth are missing for an extended length of time. Dental implant stimulates the bone beneath your gums, preventing bone loss.
Your new replacement tooth will also prevent any dental shifting around the missing tooth site and simplify your dental care.
It is much easier to care for a dental implant supported crown, which can be cleaned like a natural tooth.
Because dental implant is easier to brush and keep clean than bridges,it may reduce your risk of developing gum disease in the future.
The human jaw bone maintains its integrity through proper stimulation from the roots of the teeth. When a tooth is missing, that portion of the jaw bone atrophies and wastes away.
Single Tooth Implant can help preserve the integrity of your mouth and face by supporting gum and jawbone structure, stimulating the jaw bone, preventing it from deteriorating, and help avoid serious bone loss and oral health problems.
The appearance of your smile will be more natural and your new teeth will function just like natural tooth. This not only increases comfort, but it also boosts self-confidence when smiling, speaking, and eating.
Traditional replacements, like dental bridges, permanently damage the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth space. Signle Dental implant is independent of the neighbouring teeth and will not damage or affect your natural teeth.
A dental implant and a dental bridge both act as tooth replacement but when weighing up the pros and cons of dental implant vs bridge, only an implant offers a permanent tooth replacement. Let’s check the pros and cons of dental implants and dental bridges so you can better evaluate what kind of tooth replacement will work best for you.
Dental implants are considered the gold standard of tooth replacement options because they replace missing teeth at the roots, which is essential to keep the bone stimulated. Without tooth roots, you can expect bone loss to occur.
Dental implants also do not require any preparation to be done to surrounding teeth, unlike dental bridges. With proper care and good dental hygiene it is possible for your dental implant to last for the rest of your lifetime.
A dental bridge is made up by a false tooth that is held between two crowns that fit over the two adjacent teeth.
One of the biggest benefits of bridges is their initial or outlay cost. They are more affordable tooth replacements than dental implants at first glance, but they should be considered within the bigger picture too. With good care your dental implant could last for the rest of your lifetime, however your bridge will need replacement in the future. Essentially, if you are going to make your decision based on cost, you should probably factor in the cost of more than one dental bridge, depending on how long your dental practitioner expects it will last. On average a dental bridge could last for up to 10 years.
When it comes to matters of durability, a dental implant’s permanence makes it a lot more robust than a dental bridge. A dental implant can better withstand the forces of biting and chewing than a bridge. A free consultation at ArtSmiles will help you decide which option will work best for you.
Sometimes patients are not eligible for dental implants because they have gum disease, uncontrolled medical conditions or other factors that prevent them from a more permanent tooth replacement.
Dental bridges are also much quicker to deploy as a tooth replacement than dental implants, which may take months to finalise. If you do opt for implants, you can expect a multi-stage approach to treatment, and you can expect to visit your dentist on a number of occasions before you have replaced your tooth.
Generally a dental bridge can be completed in two visits and take just a week or two to finalise, which is a much quicker treatment time than an implant.
When comparing maintenance needs, both implants and dental bridges have similar requirements, and must be brushed and flossed twice daily. A dental bridge does run the risk of some degree of complication because over the way that the crowns fit over the adjacent teeth. If you have lost teeth because of decay it’s more important than ever to ensure you keep up with your regular dental check ups.
Ultimately the choice of what works best for you should be guided under the supervision of your dentist. Making the right choice is a matter of balancing out your short, medium and long term needs and coming up with the best solution that you can afford. While doing research is an important part of that decision-making process, it really should be guided by your dentist.

Our cutting edge dental implant technology, advanced techniques and years of experience allow most implant patients, even those with a failing tooth to have an implant and temporary crown the same day. For most patient, in just a few hours, any existing tooth is removed, implant placed and fixed temporary tooth is placed all in the same visit.
To begin the process, we will place dental implant into the jawbone to act as a tooth root and create a solid foundation for the new tooth. This scenario creates a seamless treatment with the patient usually leaving with a much better tooth than the original.
After a few months, a permanent implant crown can be delivered to replace the temporary crown. The temporaries provide us with a road map for making the permanent tooth. By comparing what we like and don’t like about the temporaries we fine-tune the permanent tooth to the patient’s highest expectations.
Our commitment to you is to provide high quality dental restorations to ensure your implant last, so you can smile and eat with confidence.
If you have one or multiple missing teeth it can lead to bone loss in the jawbone. Without stimulation from your teeth and their roots, your jawbone will deteriorate. As time progresses and the bone continues to deteriorate, the bone mass becomes insufficient for the placement of dental implants.
Bone grafting is the process of restoring the bone in the jaw that has been lost due periodontal disease. If the disease left untreated, the bacteria in the plaque buildup will spread beyond the gum line and cause the supporting bone to deteriorate, potentially causing teeth to fall out completely.
If you are missing teeth and are in need of dental implants, a key factor in the dental implant procedure is having enough bone in the jaw to support implants. Patients who lack the bone density needed to sustain single or multiple implants may be in need of a bone graft, composed of small fragments of your own bone, synthetic material, or donated material.
A sinus lift, also called sinus augmentation, is a procedure that makes it easier to place dental implants. Some patients need dental implants but have suffered bone loss, thus not having sufficient bone support necessary for implants. A sinus lift can help as it increases the amount of bone in the upper jaw by adding bone to the space between your molars and premolars. To make room for the bone, the sinus membrane has to be moved upward or “lifted,” which gives the surgery its name.
Ridge expansion is a procedure that can be performed when the jaw is not wide enough to support implants. In this procedure, the ridge bone is divided and the inner and outer segments of bone are wedged apart. This creates a space between the divided sections of bone that can be filled with bone graft.
As a patient, it is important to have three dimensional imaging if you are planning on having dental implants placed into your jaw bone. By studying a 3D image of your mouth, we can plan the best course of an implant procedure for you. Moreover, 3D imaging enables a predictable result and a less invasive procedure. There are critical structures in your jaw bone which can get damaged during your surgery. But with 3D imaging, we can see the details of your jaw bone and teeth prior to surgery and prepare the procedure and dental implants accordingly.
immediate load dental implants allow posts to be placed in the bone and the new teeth to be placed immediately.
Instead of having to make multiple appointments weeks apart, immediate load dental implants can be done in one visit.
Candidates for immediate load dental implants include those who are having full arch implants, single or multiple teeth in the front of the mouth, and those who have dense bone.
Our Gold Coast Dentist will assess your general and oral health prior to discussing implant placement. The consultation is complimentary. If you have a good general and oral health, we will take a 3D x-ray of the jaw.
A 3D x-ray is necessary for implant placement. For your comfort, ArtSmiles has this equipment available. You can bring this x-ray if you already have it. If you decide to take the x-ray with us, there is a cost for the x-ray and you can take it with you.
After taking the x-ray, your dentist will plan the case in front of you and explain everything related to your treatment plan. Usually this consultation takes between 30 and 45 minutes.
Once you accept the treatment, your dentist will scan your mouth. This 3D scan will be merged with your x-ray to create a surgical guide. Most of our surgeries are guided, in order to improve safety, predictability, and provide less trauma to the patient.
Your dentist will also discuss the surgical process and risks with you. This consult takes 30 minutes.
The implant surgery is usually executed in 45-60 minutes. At ArtSmiles, we are proud of our excellence in infection control, and for surgery that means that everything we use during the surgery must be sterile and the technique aseptic.
As we use surgical guides, the implant is positioned as predicted in the planning, which reduces the risk of damaging important structures of your jaw.
The implants used at ArtSmiles are Dentsply Sirona implants and Southern Implants, which are considered as one of the gold standard implants by the academic dental world. Due to it’s quality, Dentsply Sirona offers lifetime warranty for their implants. This cover is related to the product, but not the surgical procedure. Depending on the complexity of the case, your dentist may use additional procedures to build bone or gingiva around the implant. These procedures increase the time and cost of the surgery. These procedures are evaluated and discussed with you in the planning consult. In cases of narrow bone, it may be required to execute a bone graft before the implant placement.
Aesthetic cases will require a provisional crown.
After 2 to 6 months of the surgery, you must come for a 45 minutes consult to evaluate the osseointegration and do the scanning of your mouth to receive the crown on implant.
This is the first of two visits for crown placement, and we’ll kindly ask for 50% prepayment of the code 672 – Porcelain crown on implant, and 661 – Abutment.
Depending on the complexity, we may deliver the crown in the next day of the scanning, or up to 2 weeks, when an outsourced lab service is required.
In cosmetic cases, we normally recommend using a lab service for shade match. There is an additional cost if a lab is used for aesthetically demanding cases.
