Post-Operative Instructions for All-on-X Temporary Bridge

Protect Your Implants and Healing Smile During This Critical Phase

You’ve completed your All-on-X surgery and received your temporary bridge—the first big step toward your confident new smile. During this phase, your implants are healing and integrating with the bone. The temporary bridge is designed for appearance and gentle function only. With the right care, you’ll ensure a strong foundation for your permanent bridge.

Rest & Recovery

Rest for the first 48 hours. Keep your head elevated and avoid heavy lifting, bending, or intense physical activity.

Apply cold packs to your cheeks (20 minutes on, 20 minutes off) to reduce swelling in the first 48 hours.

Soft Diet is Essential

Eat soft foods only for 6–8 weeks.

Chew on the back teeth, using small bites. Avoid direct pressure on the front teeth.

Examples of allowed foods: scrambled eggs, pasta, smoothies, mashed potatoes, yogurt, soft-cooked fish, bananas.

Avoid completely: crusty bread, tough meats, raw vegetables, nuts, ice, chewing gum, hard or sticky foods.

Oral Hygiene

Do not brush or rinse for the first 24 hours.

From day 2:

  • Rinse gently with warm saltwater (1 tsp in a cup) 3–4 times per day, especially after meals.
  • If prescribed, use your medicated mouthwash as directed.

Gently brush the teeth with a soft toothbrush.

Do not use water flossers or interdental brushes around the implants until approved.

Important Notes About the Temporary Bridge

This bridge is temporary and not designed for full bite force.

Do not test its strength or bite into hard items.

Minor speech changes are normal and improve with time.

Contact us if you feel clicking, looseness, or unusual movement.

Avoid

Smoking or vaping for at least 7 days—longer than 3 months is better. Smoking can severely impair healing and cause implant failure.

Drinking alcohol or using a straw for 5–7 days.

Touching the surgical area with fingers or tongue.

Do not hold the bridge with your finger to test if it is stable, as you may dislodge the implants.

Follow-Up & Next Steps

Your follow-up visit will be within 7–10 days to monitor healing.

After 3–6 months, once osseointegration is confirmed, your final bridge will be fitted.

Continue soft foods and care as advised during the healing period.
