Post-Operative Instructions for All-on-X Dental Implant Surgery

Your Recovery Guide After Full-Arch Implant Treatment

All-on-X (also called All on 4)  surgery is a transformative procedure that replaces an entire arch of missing teeth using four or more strategically placed implants. At ArtSmiles, your healing and comfort are our top priorities. Following these instructions closely will help you recover safely and get the most from your new smile.

Immediately After Surgery

Keep pressure on the gauze pad placed over the site for 30–60 minutes. Replace as needed.

Apply an ice pack on the outside of the face in 10-minute intervals for the first 24–48 hours.

Rest and avoid any strenuous activities for the first 1–2 days.

Avoid spitting, rinsing, or using straws for the first 24 hours.

Medications

Take prescribed antibiotics and pain medication exactly as directed.

Start pain relief before the numbness wears off to stay ahead of discomfort.

Avoid alcohol and driving while taking strong pain relief.

Diet

For the first 7–10 days, eat only soft foods (e.g., smoothies, soup, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs).

No chewing with the front or back teeth—even if your bridge feels strong.

Avoid hot, spicy, crunchy, or chewy foods.

Absolutely no smoking or alcohol—these increase the risk of implant failure.

Oral Hygiene

Do not brush the surgical site for the first 24 hours.

From day 2, rinse gently with salt water after meals (1 tsp salt in a glass of warm water).

After 5–7 days, you may use a soft brush or prescribed rinse if directed by your clinician.

Healing Expectations

Swelling peaks around day 2 or 3, then gradually subsides.

Bruising is normal and may last up to 10 days.

Sutures are usually dissolvable unless told otherwise.

Important Notes

Your provisional bridge is temporary. It’s designed to protect healing implants, not for chewing hard foods.

Do not apply pressure or test the strength of the bridge—it’s meant for aesthetics and light function only.

Follow-up appointments are critical to monitor healing and begin planning your final zirconia bridge.
